Pastor Steve Whinery is the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Tri-Cities in Kennewick, Washington, where he has been faithfully shepherding his congregation since founding the church in 1990. Raised in Southern California in a broken home, Steve came to faith in Christ in the summer of 1975 at a Calvary Chapel in Riverside — a moment that would redirect the entire course of his life. His story is not one of a man who had it all together, but of a man who was transformed. Before surrendering his life to the Lord, Steve was known for partying and a violent streak; after rededicating his life at age 19, he left all of that behind and never looked back.

For over four decades, Steve has been a steady, Word-centered voice for men who are navigating the same kinds of broken beginnings, hard roads, and genuine hunger for something real. He sat under the mentorship of Greg Laurie, taught verse-by-verse through Scripture on the radio broadcast Crosswalk, and has built a church culture that is — in his own words — “not so much into church as into Jesus.” Steve brings a no-nonsense, deeply biblical perspective shaped by real life: construction work, marriage, fatherhood, and decades of walking with God through it all. Men who come to The Men’s Advance will hear from a pastor who has lived it.

Calvary Chapel Tri-Cities (CCTC) is a Spirit-led church rooted in a remarkable story of obedience and faith. In 1990, a small group of families from Calvary Chapel Big Bear, California packed up four moving vans and followed God’s clear direction to relocate to Kennewick, Washington — holding their very first service as a church on Easter morning at a Motel 6 in Pasco. calvary-tricities From that unlikely beginning, CCTC has grown into a thriving, Word-centered community committed to knowing God and making Him known — a church built not on programs or ambition, but on prayer, Scripture, and a willingness to go wherever God leads.
